# AllerCarte

> AllerCarte is a web app, made in Portugal, for people with food allergies who eat out. You pick the allergens you avoid (from the 14 the EU requires restaurants to declare) and the map shows which restaurants have dishes for you; each menu is then marked dish by dish. When a menu is not in the app yet, a photo of it is read and the allergens of each dish are estimated. AllerCarte is informative and does not replace confirming allergens with the restaurant. Formerly called besayfe.

The app runs in the phone's browser at https://www.allercarte.com and is available in Portuguese (pt-PT) and English. It covers 349 restaurants with a menu in more than 50 towns in Portugal, from Viana do Castelo to the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores included.

## How to read the colours

- Strong green (solid): there are dishes free of your allergens, confirmed by the restaurant.
- Dashed green (hollow check): free of your allergens according to an estimate, not yet confirmed by the restaurant.
- Orange: allergens not confirmed, or possible cross-contact. Ask the restaurant.
- Red: no dishes free of your allergens.
- Grey: no menu data yet. You can photograph the menu.

## Where the information comes from

- From the kitchen: restaurants that join fill in a sheet for each recipe. Only what they confirm shows as strong green.
- Official chain data: for large chains, the allergen tables they publish. Declared information always wins over an estimate.
- Menu photo: the text is read (OCR) and a model estimates the likely allergens from each dish's name and usual recipe. Estimates are labelled as such.
